CHAIRMANS REPORT

After such an unusual year it has been fantastic to get back into action with the Futsal Summer Series! Amongst the committee, the enforced absence has certainly made the heart grow fonder and this feeling certainly seems to be shared amongst players, coaches, parents and supporters. We’re extremely grateful for your patience and loyalty and it has been brilliant to see many of you again in recent weeks.

Ironically, in a season where very little futsal has been played we have been awarded the Leicestershire FA Grassroots League of the Year! However, this is a fair reflection of all the hard work behind the scenes (especially by Paul, Hamzah and Sayed) that has led to an astonishing growth from 50, to more than 200 teams over the last 3 years. Now as one of the largest futsal leagues in the UK, the growth in participation has also coincided with an increase in quality. This is reflected well with strong representation in recent year’s regional finals, with numerous teams winning through to the national finals. Although lockdown brought an end to these competitions, there is now all to play for once more!

Overall, our commitment to participation, enjoyment, development and quality will continue to be our priorities, whilst maintaining a view of the game through the players’ eyes. This allows us to create an exciting environment for league and cup competitions, whilst continuing to innovate with new ideas such as ‘Power Play’ and ‘Power Player’. Our continued expansion would not be possible without the ongoing relationships with existing venues including; Crown Hills, Judgemeadow, Ellesmere College, Samworth Academy and Babington. Now supported with much needed new opportunities at Wreake Valley, Beauchamp College and Leicester Sports Centre we are thankful to all those involved in these partnerships.

2020 / 2021 has clearly been a challenging year in all walks of life, but in the futsal environment we’re determined to use this as a springboard for an even better experience moving forward. Once again, we’re expecting a high number of entries for 2021 / 2022 and are also really encouraged by the growth in the girl’s game. This is great news for all male and female young players in Leicestershire and our pathway now extends from U7s, right through to the adult game. Enjoy the summer and get your applications in soon for the new season!
